Andreu Vilà, appointed as the new president of OfiRaee.

  • Andreu Vilà, Managing Director of Fundación ECOTIC, elected as the rotating president of OfiRaee.
  • Luis Moreno Jordana, Managing Director of Fundación ECOLEC, was also appointed as the rotating vice president.
  • The SCRAPs that make up OfiRaee are expected to close the 2024 financial year with more than 330,000 tons of WEEE managed in accordance with RD 110/2015.

In the latest meeting of the Coordination Office of the WEEE SCRAPs, our Managing Director, Andreu Vilà, was appointed as the rotating president of OfiRaee, the Coordination Office of the WEEE SCRAPs, a position he has previously held as vice president twice, from late 2017 to early 2020 and during the period from January 2023 to November of this year. In the same meeting, Luis Moreno Jordana, Managing Director of Fundación ECOLEC, was also elected as the rotating vice president.

Andreu Vilà holds the position of Managing Director of ECOTIC, as well as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the company weee Europe AG, in which Fundación Ecotic is a shareholder. He is also a member of the Board of the WEEE Forum organization, which currently brings together 51 extended producer responsibility (EPR) schemes worldwide. Previously, Andreu Vilà was the President of the subsidiaries of the Swiss multinational CIBA in Spain, Italy, and Portugal.

The aforementioned appointments mark the end of José Pérez García’s presidency, CEO of RECYCLIA, who served as President of OfiRaee for two terms. During his tenure, the EPR schemes grouped under OfiRaee managed over 700 million kilograms of WEEE.

The current president of OfiRaee states that the challenges to be addressed include “maintaining and consolidating the excellent work carried out by previous presidents, as well as completing the process of negotiating agreements with the Autonomous Communities. In terms of regulation, the focus will be on tackling the challenges arising from the recent ministerial order that governs the electronic platform and the assignment office, with particular attention to the creation of this assignment office, which will replace, in many of its functions, the current OfiRaee.”

OfiRaee is structured with a plenary session in which all the AEE SCRAPs that are part of this coordination office are represented, and the main issues affecting OfiRaee’s activities are discussed. In addition, OfiRaee is made up of four sectorial working groups (GT OfiRaee, GT Communication, GT RII-AEE, and GT Regulatory Procedures), where detailed discussions are held on the issues impacting each specific group.

In addition to the increase in quantities managed in recent years, as established by RD 110/2015, the six editions of the National Congress on WEEE Management organized by OfiRaee stand out. This congress serves as a forum for discussing the latest developments in WEEE management and as a meeting point for the various stakeholders involved in the life cycle of electrical and electronic equipment: manufacturers, distributors, waste managers, and public administrations. The sixth edition of this congress was held in Córdoba at the beginning of October and, as with previous editions, was a resounding success.
