WEEE

What is WEEE?

Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment

At the end of their useful life, electrical and electronic devices become waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). This includes their materials, parts, consumables and sub-assemblies, from household or professional use.

All appliances must be identified with a crossed-out wheelie bin symbol to inform consumers that they cannot be thrown away, but must be collected separately to guarantee their proper environmental management.

What challenges do they pose?

Avoiding their environmental impact

The main problem with the management of WEEE is its potential to pollute the environment.

Recovering valuable resources

WEEE contains a wide variety of materials such as iron, copper, aluminium, rare earths and many others.

A growing challenge

ECOTIC has collected 1,291,381 tonnes of WEEE since it started

In 2023, the organisation managed 121,588 tonnes from household and professional use.
